A mobile fish and chip shop has been named as one of the UK’s best after being shortlisted for a national award.
Country Fried, owned by Langho's Simon Mathews, has made the top five in the mobile category for the National Fish and Chip Awards 2023.
The mobile category recognises fish and chip vans and trailers from around the UK for their excellence in producing quality fish and chips from their mobile units.
These businesses have had to overcome challenges that bricks and mortar outlets haven’t and they continue to do so.
The mobile category celebrates their ingenuity and resourcefulness.
A panel of industry experts judged all applications meticulously, in order to finalise the top five.
Simon said: “To say we are so excited about being shortlisted in the national top five mobile category is an understatement.
“It just proves great fish and chips can and still does come from the North West and more importantly from Country Fried.”
The National Fish Friers Federation (NFFF) president Andrew Crook, who also runs the Skippers of Euxton restaurant in Chorley, said: “Mobile vans and trailers provide a vital service in many rural areas and at weddings and other key life events.
“They often represent the industry with customers that may not regularly visit a fish and chip shop, so it is great to see these businesses producing amazing fish and chips and striving for excellence!”
The National Fish and Chip Awards will take place on February 28, 2023, at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge.
