This week’s beer highlight comes from the long-established brewery, Goose Eye. The West Yorkshire brewer, based in Bingley, has been quenching the thirsts of discerning cask ale drinkers since 1991, with their range of fine, traditional beers.
Their Chinook ale is described as a blonde-style beer. However, in my humble opinion, I would define it more of a golden ale.
It has an attractive light golden presentation with a tight, white head. The aroma had grapefruit firmly in charge, in addition to some peppery spice.
The taste is zesty and bittersweet with more juicy grapefruit and light, spicy notes. This was in addition to flavours of piney bitterness and soft, bready malt sweetness.
The dry, tangy finish had a pithy grapefruit, pine and a hint of spicy warmth.
It’s no surprise that Chinook is the brewery’s best-selling ale, a crisp, spritzy, thirst-quenching and flavoursome beer. A delicious beverage in exceptional condition at the Hare and Hounds, Haggate, Burnley.
