A brass band is celebrating 150 years of playing music in the Rossendale area.
Stacksteads Brass Band was formed in 1872 and to celebrate its 150th year milestone, the band will be hosting a Christmas Celebration Concert on December 10 at the Bacup Royal Court Theatre.
The concert will be hosted and include performances by internationally renowned, local tenor, Sean Ruane.
There will also be performances by talented Soprano, Kate Daggett, St Anne’s Community Choir and the children from Bacup Royal Court Theatre’s youth group, BYTES.
Stacksteads Brass Band committee member, Jack Eastwood, said: “We are delighted to celebrate our 150th anniversary at the Bacup Royal Court Theatre, an historic and much loved local venue, alongside Sean Ruane, St Annes Community Choir and the children from BYTES.
“We wanted to end our 150th year in style, and we couldn’t think of a better way to bring our band members, friends and the community together than at a Christmas concert.
"After all, this is the most wonderful time of the year and we know that everyone loves to hear a brass band at Christmas.
“We hope to see as many people join us at our concert on December 10 as possible, it promises to be a real treat.
“The funds raised from this concert will ensure that Stacksteads Brass Band continues to thrive for another 150 years.”
The concert will bring together the wider community to celebrate the band’s impressive milestone, while raising much needed funds for the renovation of their bandroom, which is undergoing essential refurbishment to ensure it is future proofed for use in the coming years.
Works include a new frontage, heating system, kitchen, toilets, and alterations to the building to improve accessibility.
The evening promises to be fun for all the family with music featuring a mix of well-known Christmas songs, carols and movie themes, and Santa will be making the trip to Bacup on the night to greet guests at the interval.
Local dignitaries, including the Mayor of Rossendale, Councillor Anne Cheetham, have also been invited to attend the concert.
Tenor and host of the Celebration Concert, Sean Ruane, said: “I am really excited to host and sing as part of the Stacksteads Band’s 150th anniversary Christmas celebration.
“To think that the band has been intimately involved with Bacup and Rossendale for all that time is amazing. With St Anne’s choir involved too, this really will be a night to remember.”
