An apprenticeship is being launched to help people go to university to study for an optical degree.
Starting next year, UCLan's Training 2000’s level two optical assistant apprenticeship will transition to a level three optical assistant apprenticeship.
For the launch, Training 2000 are hosting an information and Q&A session on Thursday, December 1 between 8.30am to 9am, on Microsoft Teams.
During the session, attendees will have an opportunity to find out more about how the apprenticeship is structured, what commitments involve as an employer, and the government funding and potential costs involved.
Universities recognise the level three optical assistant apprenticeship, meaning that those who complete the qualification and hold GCSE/level two functional skills in maths and English, can progress onto various degree courses in the optical industry, such as a Dispensing Optician Degree.
For existing members of staff looking to develop their careers, the Level 3 Optical Assistant Apprenticeship will equip them with a deeper knowledge of the industry and provide them with the skills and behaviours to adopt a more varied role and alleviate the pressure from the Dispensing Optician.
Account Manager Jodie Clarkson said “For employers, a Level 3 qualification is likely to attract a greater number of applicants compared to a Level 2. The Level 3 will be an opportunity to attract fresh talent into the Optical Industry.”
