HARD up households in a rural borough have been offered a food voucher cost of living lifeline.

Residents in Ribble Valley facing financial difficulty have been invited to apply for up to £250 in food vouchers.

The Household Support Fund was introduced by the Department for Work and Pensions in October 2021 to help vulnerable households pay for food and energy.

Now a new phase of the fund has been launched by Ribble Valley Council to support households with limited means not eligible for other government support.

Households in receipt of a council tax rebate, disability cost-of-living payment or funds from the energy bills support scheme are also invited to apply.

Food vouchers of £100 for single households, £150 for households with two or more adults and £250 for households with children are available until March 31 2023 while the money lasts.

Only one application per household is allowed and total household income must be no more than £31,400 per year.

Payments from the fund will not impact on any benefits that applicants already receive

Ribble Valley Council leader Cllr Stephen Atkinson said: “The cost-of-living crisis is unprecedented and many households not entitled to Government help are struggling to make ends meet.

“We particularly want to support these low-income households, who are in need, but don’t qualify for other support.

“Households vulnerable to rising prices, for example single-income families, unpaid carers and disabled people are particularly invited to apply.

“We want to do what we can to help local families make it through what may be a difficult winter.”
