Three pubs in East Lancashire have been recognised for having tip-top toilets, after winning awards in this year’s Loo of the Year Awards.
The pubs, all chains of JD Wetherspoon, have been praised for the cleanliness and high standard of fit out by the awards.
The Loo of the Year Awards aim “to encourage the highest possible standards in all ‘away from home’ washrooms” and has been run since 1987.
Venues are assessed against a range of judging criteria, covering both male and female facilities, as well as any baby changing, accessible, Changing Places, Space to Change or Hygiene Room facilities.
Inspectors look at décor and maintenance, cleanliness, accessibility, hand washing and drying equipment, and overall management as part of the judging process, with no stone left unturned.
All entries receive a grading; Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, or Diamond following an unannounced visit by a fully trained and authorised Loo of the Year Awards Inspector, with those not up to standard not getting any grade atall.
The Commercial Hotel in Accrington has been awarded a Platinum Plus rating, while the Postal Order in Blackburn and Old Chapel in Darwen were both rated Platinum.
Manager at the Commercial Hotel, John Rogers, said: "We are delighted with the award.
“Staff at the pub ensure the toilets are in excellent condition at all times and it is great that this has been recognised by the inspectors."
Becky Wall, managing director of the Loo of the Year Awards, said: "The toilets at the three pubs have been designed and fitted out to a very high standard and are both clean and well maintained.
"The pubs deserve their awards.”
Elsewhere in Lancashire, more ‘Spoons were included on the list of top toilets.
The Sir Henry Tate in Chorley, and the Sir Richard Owen in Lancaster have both been awarded a Platinum Plus rating, while the Leyland Lion in Leyland, and the Eric Bartholemew in Morecambe received a Platinum rating.
The country’s best toilets will be honoured at a national awards ceremony in February, held at the National Motorcycle Museum in Solihull.
Anyone can nominate a toilet they think deserves recognition by visiting the Loo of the Year Awards website.
