A "very much-loved, kind and caring" man who was just 30 years old took his own life, an inquest heard.

James William Venguedasalon was found dead in his vehicle at Grainings Wood car park by his mother on May 7.

An inquest at Accrington Town Hall heard that Mr Venguedasalon was pronounced dead at the scene and the series of events that led to his suicide.

On May 4, Mr Venguedasalon started his new job and was keen to begin. The following day, he and his partner met at the Old Function Room in Darwen for drinks - at around 11.30pm, his partner went home.

On May 6, Mr Venguedasalon's partner tried to contact him and Mr Venguedasalon’s friend of 25 years, Lee Parkinson, spotted and drove past Mr Venguedasalon’s car on Bolton Road at the Grainings Wood car park, but did not think anything of it.

On May 7, Mr Venguedasalon’s mother asked his friends if they had seen him because she hadn’t heard from him since the day before.

However, when out on a dog walk, she came across Mr Venguedasalon’s car and found him unconscious.

Friends of Mr Venguedasalon’s said they did not realise he was feeling so low.

Mr Venguedasalon’s partner told the court they met in 2019 and moved in together in 2020, they were settled and were really happy together during the Covid-19 lockdowns.

She said he was a "loving, caring man" who "cared deeply about other people".

Mr Venguedasalon's partner said he struggled with his anxiety and wanted to go out and socialise but also found it hard to leave the house.

Coroner Kate Bisset asked the family about how Mr Venguedasalon’s intensity of anxiety made him sick before going out - they agreed and said he still went out and put a front on.

Mr Venguedasalon's partner said in 2021 he trained to plaster at a new job and he felt good about it, but when the job finished, he went downhill.

Mr Venguedasalon became paranoid and began to drink and in January he moved back home to his parents. During the weeks leading up to May 7, his mental health fluctuated.

Speaking in court, Mr Venguedasalon’s family shared their best memories of their son, brother, and partner who was known as 'Vengy’ to his friends.

His parents spoke of how their son loved music, had a lot of friends and was a very popular man, he loved a concert and enjoyed his life socially and worked really hard during the week.

As a child, they shared how they "loved him to bits" and he was a "very loving child".

They told the court how dedicated and hard-working their son was and said Mr Venguedasalon was always there for everyone,

It was noted that in his early twenties he was into recreational drugs and in 2019 he was prescribed anti-depressants.

The court heard Mr Venguedasalon's relationship was strong and was the "happiest time of James’s life".

In a CT scan, Mr Venguedasalon’s body was analysed and didn’t show an obvious cause of death. A toxicology report stated there was an "excessive carbon monoxide contribution" and a small amount of cocaine in his system.

Closing the inquest, Coroner Bisset said: “James was an extremely well-loved son, brother, partner and friend.”

Recording a verdict, she said Mr Venguedasalon died from suicide with excessive carbon monoxide inhalation.
