An independent bookshop in East Lancashire is to close its doors this weekend.
Number 10, in Castlegate, Clitheroe, is set to close on Saturday, October 22.
Owner, Zoë Channing, said it was a difficult decision to make.
She said: “It is with much sadness that I have to announce the closure of Number 10 Literature and Lifestyle.
“This decision has not been taken lightly and those who know me know that I have loved my little bookshop since we opened in June 2019.
“Having survived the pandemic, illness, bereavement and covid, this latest blow to indie retail is impossible to overcome
“I’m not sure what will happen post-closure but I’ll keep you posted.
“In the meantime there will be a massive clearance sale so come and pick up some bargains.”
The book shop, which specialises in crime fiction, opened in 2019.
Speaking the the Lancashire Telegraph at the time Zoe, a self-confessed crime fiction buff, said it was a topic she was passionate about and was eager to create reading lists for customers.
Since making the announcement many customers have expressed their sadness.
Joel Hames-Clarke said: “I am so sorry to see this Zoe.
“Whatever you do now I’m sure it will be a success but I can hardly imagine how challenging the current (and likely future) situation must be for small retailers.
“Best of luck and you will be missed.”
Maxine Atkinson said: “So very few independent bookshops are left on the high streets.
“I’ll miss seeing your lovely window displays.”
Dorothy Mead said: “I’m so sorry to read this - we’re only occasional visitors but you created a lovely and special shop”.
