A talented 10-year-old from Accrington has clinched a gold medal at a national wrestling championship.

Abdullah Nasar, a pupil Saint Anne Saint Joseph school competed in Dublin and won the Irish National Wrestling Championship.

Abdullah added the title to his British National championship win in May.

Dad Nasar Mohammed said: “He did really well and we are all very proud of him.

"He was matched up with three wrestlers in the 30kg weight category and still came out on top.

“Six months ago he also won gold medal at British Freestyle Wrestling Championships where he was matched with three boys at 29kg.”

Nasar said: “He’s been wrestling for over a year now and had 15 wrestling bouts. He also won gold in inter-club competitions.

“He’s always been full of energy and is into his running so I took him too Sharples Wrestling Club in Bolton.

“The first day I took him he loved it so much like he’s never looked back.

“Coaches Mostafa Fathiniya and Eddy Kavangh have been very impressed with his stamina and determination. He now travels to Bolton every Tuesday and Thursday to train.”
