Young darts enthusiasts are invited to the Blackburn Youth Darts Academy’s open day next weekend.
Professional English darts player, Lorraine Winstanley, who is head of Target Youth Development, will also be attending the day to encourage locals in the community to take part in the sport.
The Academy is having an open day on Saturday, October 22, to recruit volunteers and enrol more young people into the local sports club.
Blackburn Youth Darts Academy, which has been running as a non-profit organisation since 2017, aim to promote darts to children and young people who are the next generation of the sport.
Keith Brunt, the director of the academy, said: “The day is perfect for kids to have a go at darts, and for teachers to come and see what we can offer via my ‘dartplus’ initiative where I can go into schools to teach maths through darts and also after school dart clubs.”
“There will also be lots of fun activities like face painting for kids, tombola and prizes to be won.”
Blackburn Youth Darts Academy works within the local community, using the sport as a way to help children from the ages of six to 18 learn, improve and progress in darts whilst also making new friends.
The Academy director has been praised by locals, in the past, for his impact on young people in Blackburn after community centres have closed down, the Academy provides a safe and fun space for kids and teenagers to socialise.
To continue supporting young people in the area, Keith aims to increase their funding an sponsorships so is welcoming businesses to come along to network and grab up any sponsorship and advertising opportunities.
The event is open to all children aged seven to 17 to come and have a go at a few rounds of darts and take a look around the venue.
The open day will begin at 12pm to 5pm at St Paul’s Working Mens Club on Montague Street, Blackburn.
