The man behind YouTube sensation Rate My Takeaway has visited a popular sandwich shop and feasted on a buffet brunch for one.
The Fuzzy Duck, based in Whalley Road, Read, was treated to a special visit yesterday by Danny Malin, the beloved food critic and face of Rate My Takeaway.
The Barnsley social media influencer has built a successful career through reviewing takeaways around the country, with a humorous commentary and a down to earth personality that has helped him grow a loyal fan base online.
In the 28-minute-long review of The Fuzzy Duck, Danny said he was excited to visit the sandwich shop because of the fact everything is made fresh and homemade, and, as a ‘fuzzy piggy’ himself, was intrigued by the shop’s name.
The owner of the five star Trip Advisor rated sandwich shop, Rachel Tuson, shared how thrilled she and the staff were to receive the phone call that Danny was on his way to review their shop.
She said: “I got the phone call on a Friday night saying he’d be round in an hour.
"I couldn’t believe it, there was no preparation at all, he just came down, we did our best and we’re honestly so happy he loved it.”
In the Rate My Takeaway review video, Danny orders a ‘bag of wonders’ containing a salt and pepper chicken box with sweet chilli, broccoli and rice, a caramelised onion and sausage panini, a homemade scotch egg, homemade sausage roll, and a slice of Victoria sponge cake.
Sat at his trademark portable table and chair, Danny said: “Wow, the flavour, the freshness – you know what, that broccoli is cooked to perfection.
“Apart from the devil’s food (a rogue sweetcorn) it is absolutely bang on and I’ve got to say it’s probably one of the most moist chicken fillets I’ve had for a while.
“That is the best sausage sandwich I’ve ever had in my life.
“It’s like biting into Christmas morning, the sausage is cooked to perfection, it’s got beautiful texture, the cheese is good.
“That for me is an absolute winner.”
Moving onto the pastries and pudding, Danny was just as impressed with the food.
“They’ve got the egg bang on,” he said whilst trying the scotch egg.
“That is perfection. Sometimes when you get one from the supermarkets, they taste a bit rubbery and weird, but with that you can taste the freshness, it’s amazing.”
Equally as excited with the sausage roll, Danny added: “It’s like bonfire night inside my mouth when I bite into this, it’s absolutely unreal.
“It’s probably one of the best things I’ve ever eaten.”
Commenting on the last item, the food critic called the sponge cake, “sweet heaven” so it’s fair to say his meal from The Fuzzy Duck went down a treat.
Danny ended the review recommending his viewers to try out the venue, adding that Fuzzy Duck has jumped to his number one spot.
He said: “It’s a solid ten without a shadow of a doubt.”
Rachel added: "Danny’s glowing comments and feedback along with so many other generous people who have taken time to comment, have let us know we are on track to deliver what we set out to achieve.
"Our commitment to creating incredible food & exceeding customer expectations has been reinforced."
