A Lancashire town has been named the most haunted in the county, according to Psychic World’s research.
Burnley took the top spot with the highest number of paranormal sightings recorded for a place in Lancashire.
Psychic World gathered a total figure of 11,700 paranormal sightings for 59 counties across the UK using online paranormal databases.
Counties were ranked in accordance with the total number of paranormal sightings recorded.
Types of sightings were also recorded meaning Psychic World was able to rank the 27 different categories of paranormal sightings in the UK in accordance with the number of relevant instances.
The data was collected on October 4, 2022 and is subject to change.
The research highlighted the top 5 places with the most paranormal sightings in Lancashire.
Top 5 most haunted places in Lancashire
Burnley came out on top as the most haunted town in Lancashire while Blackburn was ranked as the fifth most haunted.

Most haunted places in the UK
The research also found Yorkshire to be the most haunted county in the UK with 797 paranormal sightings - a huge 302% higher than the UK average.
London came in second place with 701 while Essex took the third spot with 507 paranormal sightings.
The most prevalent type of paranormal sightings in the UK is phantom horses and riders like horse-drawn carriages and ghostly horsemen.
Across 59 counties, there have been 526 known sightings of phantom horses and riders recorded in the paranormal database.
Other types of popular sightings recorded are:
- Legends of folklore – appearance of mystery, legendary or extinct animals – 451 sightings
- Fairies - preternatural spirits appearing as little people – 380 sightings
- Shucks and hell hounds - phantom dogs and hounds of folklore legends – 374 sightings
- Headless ghosts - Ghosts manifesting with no head – 370 sightings
