A trio of singers, one of whom hails from East Lancashire, are representing their county on ITV singing reality competition, The Voice UK.

Jodie Hamblet from Rawtenstall, along with Rebecca Eastham from Preston, and Charlotte Hall from Blackpool, make up the band Monroe and have sailed through to the next stage of the competition.

Jodie, 32, said they are proud to represent Lancashire and put it on the map.

She said: “We are Lancashire lasses and we love the county – we are so proud of where we are from.

“If we can put Lancashire on the map by appearing on The Voice then that’s great,” Rebecca added.

Jodie said they were scouted for the show by producers and were eager to take part as the pandemic battered the music industry.

She said: “It had just been Covid and there were no gigs or work for the industry.

“We were scouted by members of production who asked if we would be interested in auditioning.

“We didn’t expect anything from it but decided to go for it as we hadn’t done anything in so long.”

In the blind audition they impressed all four judges - Anne-Marie, Tom Jones, Olly Murs and Will.i.am - with their rendition of What’s Up by 4 Non Blondes.

Every judge turned their chairs and were eager to have Monroe in their team.

Rebecca said: “We didn’t expect anyone to turn because there were so many amazing acts on there and we were so nervous."

Jodie said: “You stand there for a minute in silence before you start performing and that minute feels like a lifetime.

“As an intricate three part trio you have to listen to each other, which was tricky as the crowd was so loud.

“When Will.i.am turned it was such a shock and everything we prepared and rehearsed, we just let go of it.

“While scary, it was such an amazing experience. How often do you get to sing in front of the likes of Tom Jones and Anne-Marie?”

The trio chose pop singer Anne-Marie as their mentor as they felt she was an artist they could relate to.

“To get four turns is just mental,” said Rebecca.

“Will turned first and blocked Olly from choosing us, which made us feel very flattered.

"We felt like Will wanted us more but went with who we had always said we would choose – but it was tricky.

“We had always said Anne-Marie as she is an amazing artist and a woman in her 30s – we thought we would have a lot of similarities.”

Monroe will return to our screens on Saturday, October 15, with the ‘callbacks’ round. On this episode they will see if they will progress to the semi-finals.

Win or lose, Monroe hope the show will open some doors in their singing career and hope to write and produce their own music in the future.

They have already supported Alfie Boe at Lytham Festival and are hoping for similar gigs and opportunities in the future.

Rebecca said: “To us, we are just singing with our mates and whatever comes as a result is great.

Jodie said: “Hopefully The Voice will help get our name out there and get better opportunities in the future.

“You never know what is around the corner we just want some more quality gigs.”
