Major bonfires with fireworks will take place in local authority parks in Blackburn and Burnley on Saturday, November 5.

Meanwhile Hyndburn Council is sponsoring the firework display and funfair at Accrington Stanley's Wham Stadium the following day.

Clitheroe Castle will host a charity bonfire on Saturday, November 5.

As many authorities across the country cut back on their Guy Fawkes night celebrations, Blackburn with Darwen Council has confirmed the annual charity bonfire and fireworks display will go ahead at Witton County Park.

It is organised by Blackburn Round Table, Blackburn Lions, Blackburn Rotary club, and the Blackburn 41 Club and includes fairground rides, live music, food and drinks stalls.

It is normally attended by 12,000 to 18,000 people.

It starts at 5pm and runs to 9.30pm, with the target time to light the bonfire 7.30pm with fireworks due to begin at 8pm.

Organising committee member Frank Barrett said: "It is a fun filled family event which raises thousands of pounds for local charities.

"We are hoping it will be bigger and better than ever this year."

A Burnley Council spokesman said:"There is a Burnley Council bonfire and fireworks display as usual at Towneley Park, Burnley, on Saturday, November 5."

The event, complete with funfair, starts at 6pm with the bonfire lit at 6.45pm, a junior fireworks display at 7.15pm followed by a 'Mega Fireworks Display' at 8.15pm

The event finishes at 9pm.

A Hyndburn Council spokeswoman said: "No bonfires take place on council land in Hyndburn and none are planned for this year, the same as previous years.

"We have sponsored the fireworks event at Accrington Stanley, but this does not include a bonfire.

"We are proud to have sponsored this fantastic annual event."

It will be at Accrington's Wham Stadium on Sunday November 6.

The gates will be open from 5pm and the firework display will start at 7.30pm.

Ribble Valley Council spokeswoman said: "Ribble Valley Borough Council does not organise an annual bonfire. There is a bonfire at Clitheroe Castle."

The charity event on the castle field from 5pm to 8pm on November 5, is organised by Clitheroe 41 Club, Clitheroe Rotary, Ribblesdale Rotary, Clitheroe Round Table, Clitheroe Lions and volunteers.

A Rossendale Council spokeswoman said: "There are no council run bonfires, it's not something we normally do. Apparently there's been an application for one by Haslingden Cricket Club."

A Pendle Council spokeswoman said: "Pendle Council doesn’t run any bonfires."
