Two inspirational best friends have spoken of their excitement as their new book has already topped Amazon charts before it has even been released.

Hughie Higginson, from Burnley, and Freddie Xavi, from Whalley, have come together to pen their book ‘Friends are Amazing’ which has secured the top spot in three Amazon children's book categories.

The colourful book focuses on the importance of friendship and supporting each other, with some money from each copy going to the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital where Hughie has been receiving his cancer treatment.

Hughie said: “We have a book – I mean how bonkers is it that we are published authors?

“We have had to work around my treatment but the amount of things we have been able to do is unbelievable – we have taken a bad situation into a good one.

“It’s really good that some of the money from each book is going to the hospital.”

While Freddie added: “It’s very cool that we have a book out and have been able to write it together.

“Just to get the message across to be good friends and try and help other children be that good friend that we are for each other.

“I’m so proud of Hughie and how he has got through his treatment without being bothered, just getting on with it.”

The Pride of Britain winners have stolen the nation’s hearts after Freddie started a challenge running 2km every day to raise money for the hospital where his best friend Hughie was receiving treatment after being diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) in 2020.

Freddie raised thousands for Royal Manchester Children’s, even allowing them to get slushies on the floor where Hughie received his treatment which he said were a huge help to him.

Since then, the boys have both come together to complete more fundraisers including a 100km challenge at football stadiums across the country, starting at Turf Moor where they were accompanied by Jordan North.

Friends Are Amazing, illustrated by Erica Salcedo, will be published on October 13 but is available to pre-order now.
