A BOGUS official tricked his way into the home of a 94-year-old lady before stealing cash from her handbag.
The man pretended to be from the NHS and tricked his way into the woman's home in Lancaster Avenue, Accrington.
Police are urging anyone with information about who was responsible to come forward.
The man is described as white and he had a local accent. He said his name was David Smith from the NHS.
Sgt Martin Kennedy said: "We are particularly interested in speaking to any residents in the in the area who were visited by anyone posing as a representative from the NHS or other health care department on the afternoon of Friday April 25 and are concerned that this visitor may not have been legitimate.
"The elderly lady was left shocked and disturbed by the whole ordeal and I urge anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area or who has any information to help with our investigation to contact us."
