A WOMAN was rescued from her home after a second fire in two months.

The 34-year-old woman was found lying unconscious inside the smoke-filled bedroom in Beaumaris Avenue, Mill Hill, Blackburn, at 7.20am today.

Police said the fire is not believed to be suspicious at this stage and they believe it nay have been started accidentally.

It is the second fire in as many months at the address, however another serious fire at the house in March was found to be accidental.

The woman was treated by paramedics for smoke inhalation at the scene then taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital.

Her injuries are not said to be life-threatening.

Two fire crews who arrived at the scene found the upstairs to be well alight before carrying the woman to safety. It is thought the woman lives alone and she was the only person firefighters discovered at the property.

Neighbours said they were woken at 5.30am by a disturbance outside the house, when banging and shouting could be heard.

The noise died down, and no more was heard until 7.20am when smoke alarms from inside the property alerted neighbours to the fire.

Following the incident, the house and garden were taped off while police officers and fire crews investigated the scene.

A next-door neighbour, who did not wish to be named, told how she hurried to get her four children out of her house, when the alarm was raised.

She said: "I was frantic, trying to make sure we got out as quickly as possible. When the children were safely outside with the neighbours I managed to grab their shoes and a bottle for the baby. Then we had to wait to see when it would be safe to go back into the house."

Neighbour John Dootson said: "It's the second fire at the house this month. We were told the first one was caused by an electrical fault."

The woman was sleeping upstairs at the address on March 9 and was saved by a closed door when a fire broke out in her living room.

A spokesman from Lancashire Fire and Rescue said: "A fire at the same address on March 9 was established as accidental. Fire investigation initial reports suggest this fire may have been deliberate."

A spokeswoman for Lancashire Constabulary said: "The fire is not believed to be suspicious at this stage, although a joint police and fire investigation is underway."
