GOVERNMENT inspectors have praised a primary school where "every pupil is valued and respected".

Feniscowles Primary, Blackburn, has been rated as good with outstanding features by Ofsted.

Inspectors praise the dedication of headteacher Elizabeth Hargreaves, whose "strong commitment and vision for improvement inspires all aspects of the school's work", with strong support by a skilled deputy, staff and governors.

Parents are also overwhelmingly supportive of the Livesey Branch Road school.

Their report said, thanks to the outstanding care, guidance and support which "contributes strongly to pupils' well-being so they achieve well academically and socially".

Although children start school with below average attainment, they make good progress to achieve above average standards in both Key Stage One and Two.

Personal development, including spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, is also deemed outstanding, resulting in pupils who "behave really well, are very polite, cooperative, friendly and mature" becoming "caring, sensible young people".

Inspectors identified standards in writing as an area for improvement.
