ONE of the men behind Clitheroe's mosque has revealed that more fundraising needs to be done before the building is ready for use.
Farouk Hussain, who, along with Sheraz Arshad, campaigned to get a Muslim place of worship in the town, said that they were still raising funds in order to convert the former Methodist chapel in Lowergate.
The town's Muslim community had its 30-year fight for a mosque ended in December, 2006, when Ribble Valley Council planning chiefs finally gave plans the go ahead.
Having already raised funds through a buy-a-brick initiative, Mr Hussain said efforts were ongoing.
He said: "We are going round other mosques in the area and asking people there for donations.
"We need enough funds so we can do the job properly, there's no point putting scaffolding up and then having to abandon it halfway through, that would anger people further.
"We had to wait 30-years for a mosque, a little extra time fundraising is no problem."
