A Dean who was born in East Lancashire led Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral at Westminster Abbey.
David Hoyle MBE, who is the Dean of Westminster was born in Waterfoot, Rossendale.
The Dean led the service held today (September 19) which was watched by millions worldwide.
David Hoyle was previously the Dean of Bristol before being appointed the Dean of Westminster in 2019 upon the retirement of his predecessor John Hall.
Also in attendance from Lancashire was the chairman of the Conservative party and Rossendale and Darwen MP Jake Berry; the Lord-Lieutenant of Lancashire, Lord Shuttleworth; and the speaker in the House of Commons and Chorley MP Sir Linsday Hoyle.
The congregation also included former Prime Ministers Theresa May, Boris Johnson, David Cameron, Gordon Brown, Tony Blair, and John Major. The current Prime Minister Liz Truss also attended and gave a reading.
Dignitaries from across the commonwealth and the world including the President of America Joseph Biden were also invited to the funeral.
The service comes 11 days after the death of the Queen on Thursday, September 8.
Queen Elizabeth II was the longest-serving monarch in British history, having served for 70 years and 214 days.
After the service in Westminster, a procession led the Queen on a gun carriage to Wellington Arch in Hyde Corner.
She was then taken by hearse to Windsor where a second service was conducted at St George’s Chapel.
