A WARNING has been issued about fake £20 notes which are circulating in Pendle.

The latest £20 forgery was handed in to a cafe at the Pendle Rise shopping centre in Nelson on Monday.

Police were also notified about a fake note used in a shop in Nelson on Monday.

People are being asked to check for a watermark and the silver thread running through the note.

They are looking for two Asian men in connection with the incident at Pendle Rise, which occurred at 11am.

One is described as being an Asian male of slim build, in his early twenties, 5ft 11ins tall wearing a black baseball cap and a grey shell suit.

The second Asian man is described as being 5ft 4ins tall, of chunky build, wearing jeans and a multi-coloured horizontally striped jumper.

Police said it was a criminal offence to knowingly bank, tender or keep counterfeit currency Sergeant Keith Beckley said: "We had a fake note used yesterday.

"We had a another £20 forgery at the cafe in Nelson in the town centre arcade.

"There has been an influx of them over the last few weeks.

"We are warning people, in particular businesses, to be wary when dealing with large denominations.

"People should use the marker pens or the UV filters to check whether the note is real.

"Anyone who know the two men described or anything about the forgeries should contact us."
