A £100,000 bird of prey centre has taken delivery of a new arrival - a two-day-old European eagle owl.

Hawkshaw's Birds of Prey and Education Centre, Hawkshaw Farm, Longsight Road, Clayton-le-Dale, will open in the summer, but for now the team behind the centre is building up its bird numbers.

The new tourist attraction is the latest diversification brainchild of Eric and Amanda Dowson, the farming couple behind Mrs Dowsons Real Dairy Ice Cream.

Run alongside their dairy herd and ice cream business, the bird of prey centre aims to have up to 60 birds at the site in a bid to pull in tourists to the area.

It will be dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of birds and stepped in in this case when the baby bird was rejected by its mother.
