A FUNERAL home has been forced to close after it was deemed unsafe after a car reversed into it.

The fire service cordoned off the area surrounding Fred Hamer Funeral Directors, in Padiham Road, Burnley, after the incident at 3.15pm on Friday.

A blue automatic Renault Megane hit the funeral home front after the driver was believed to have trapped his foot on the accelerator.

The car reversed across the road and ploughed into the home.

Paramedics gave first aid to the driver, a 21-year-old man, who was suffering from shock.

The funeral home was deemed unsafe and closed following a building inspectors visit.

No-one was injured and there were no people in the home at the time of the accident.

The four-year-old car suffered severe damage.

Crew manager Antho-ny Harrison said: "The car had already been moved from the building when we got there.

"We cordoned off the area to stop pedestrians walking underneath the unsafe building.

"The police and ambulance attended, but this was just an accident.

"The driver got his foot trapped on the acceler-ator.

"The car went back across the main road and into the funeral home."
