A new family-run business, which specialises in artisan pizzas, has opened in East Lancashire.
Oak & Peel is a mobile pizzeria, which is currently based at Shackleton Garden Centre in Chatburn.
Owners Dionne Barton and Gareth West officially launched the business last Friday (September 10) and will be selling wood-fired pizzas from their trailer.
Dionne, originally from Blackburn, has family in Italy and will use all of the skills and expertise that has been passed down to her to bring a taste of Italy to East Lancashire.
The 43-year-old said: "Pizza are always something we have loved.
“During lockdown a lot of people got pizza ovens, ourselves included, and I really got into making them from scratch and feeding family.
“We love feeding people and thought launching this business would be a lovely way to share this experience on a bigger scale and with the local community.”
Instead of opting for a physical shop, Oak & Peel is a mobile business which operates from a trailer.
Dionne said: “With the trailer there is less pressure to stay in one place at a time, especially as we want to work at festivals and events.
“We love the street food theme and is something we wanted to bring to the local community. There aren’t many wood fired pizza businesses around.”
While the menu is limited, pizzas are made with fresh and mostly locally sourced ingredients.
Classic pepperoni and margherita are on the menu, along with garlic portobello mushroom with truffle oil, spicy sausage, and goat’s cheese with red onion and balsamic vinegar.
Prices range from £10-£13 with separate sauces also available to purchase and dip crusts into.
The menu will change with the seasons and Dionne, who is a vegetarian, has ensured that vegan options are available.
Dionne said: “We are quite new but already have big plans for the future and hope to branch the business out into weddings and festivals.
“We’ve only done a couple of sessions but it has proven to be really popular and well-received.
“We have had some really good feedback and people are eager say how delicious the pizzas are.”
Dionne says she is “excited” about the upcoming months.
“We both struggle with imposter syndrome, so it is really exciting to finally put things into place and to receive such positive feedback.
"We are excited about the future and what we will soon be able to bring to festivals and events.”
Oak & Peel is currently based at Shackleton’s Garden Centre, Clitheroe Road, Chatburn. They are open Friday and Saturday evenings from 6pm-8.30pm.
