Nine eateries in the Blackburn with Darwen area have been handed food hygiene ratings.

Inspectors have visited three places serving up food in and around the area in the latest round of inspections.

Examining food handling, the cleanliness and condition of facilities and building and management of food safety, inspectors have rated six eateries a five-out-of-five rating, one takeaway a four-out-of-five rating, one takeaway a three-out-of-five rating and one restaurant a two-out-of-five rating.

The eateries with the highest scores of five out of five for their food hygiene included:

  • Herbert Parkinson Ltd at Harvest Mill, Monton Road,
  • Chesters at 8-10 Copy Nook, Blackburn,
  • Ginger Muffin at 4-5 Sudell Cross, Blackburn,
  • The Old Chapel at 14-16 Railway Road, Darwen,
  • No 39 Kebab & Pizza House at 39 Darwen Street
  • Frurt Frozen Yoghurt at 213 Shear Brow, Blackburn.

On the Food Standards Agency website, all eateries bar one were rated good for the cleanliness and condition of facilities and building.

Whilst Frurt Frozen Yogurt was rated very good.

All eateries received good for management of food safety bar one.

Herbert Parkinson Ltd received a very good.

For hygienic food handling, Herbert Parkinson Ltd, The Old Chapel, and Frurt Frozen Yogurt were rated very good.

Whilst Chesters, Ginger Muffin and No 39 39 Kebab & Pizza House were all rated good.

A rating of four-out-of-five was given to Mega Bite, a takeaway at 92 Accrington Road, Blackburn.

They were rated good for both hygienic good handling and management of food safety and rated generally satisfactory for cleanliness and condition of facilities and building.

Bees, a takeaway at 36c Higher Eanam, Blackburn was given a three-out-of-five rating after assessment on July 26.

On the Food Standards website it states hygienic food handling was good and the cleanliness and condition of facilities and building and management of food safety was generally satisfactory.

The final eatery to have been inspected recently is EastZEast, a restaurant, cafe or canteen at King Georges Hall, Northgate, Blackburn which was given a two-out-of-five rating after assessment on July 19.

Improvement is necessary for the hygienic food handling whilst the cleanliness and condition of facilities and building and management of food safety is generally satisfactory.
