A MAN who had crashed his car through a wall and into a lower level field told police his friend had been driving and had run off.

Blackburn magistrates heard Scott Hill was detained after failing a roadside breath test and later admitted he had been behind the wheel.

Hill, 32, of Commercial Street, Rishton, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol. He was fined £415 with £166 victim surcharge and £85 costs and banned from driving for 18 months.

Vaqas Yakub, prosecuting, said police were informed by a member of the public of a crash on Fielding Lane, Oswaldtwistle. When they arrived the car was in a field and Hill was with it.

Richard Prew, defending, said thankfully nobody else had been involved.

He said Hill had been to a function with his partner and they had fallen out.

"He had driven the short distance home but then thought better of it and was returning to try and sort matters out," said Mr Prew.
