The winners of the 2022 English Curry Awards have been revealed, and one in East Lancashire scooped a prize.

Ten Lancashire businesses were announced as finalists at the 11th annual awards, and two were victorious.

Hawali Indian Takeaway, based in Padiham, was named the North West’s takeaway and home delivery of the year.

It beat other businesses in the the county, including Shad Tandoori and Naga Spice Indian Takeaway in Blackburn, The Lalbagh in Penwortham, Delhi 8 Indian Takeaway in Ribbleton and Taste of India in Clitheroe.

It is the only East Lancashire business to have won in the prestigious awards.

Jahid Miah, head chef and co-owner of Hawali, said: “I am really proud that we have won the award again.

“It just shows how much hard work the team puts in and to get recognition is very much appreciated.

“I would like to thank my staff at Hawali and the English Curry Awards 2022.

“Eat well, eat fresh, eat local – that’s out motto.”

Twisted Indian Street Food, in Clifton Street, Blackpool, won street food restaurant of the year.

A spokesperson said: “We are all absolutely over the moon to announce that we are the winners of the best Indian street food restaurant in the UK.

“A massive thank you to all of our amazing loyal customers and to everyone that voted for us. We genuinely couldn't of done it without you all.”

The English Curry Awards are a celebration of the top Asian curry professionals and businesses in the country, honouring a cuisine which has become a staple of high streets the length and breadth of England and one of the nation's favourite dishes.

The awards highlight the continued growth of the Asian curry sector and recognise the achievements of those who work their hardest to perfect every meal.

Those honoured include chefs, restaurants, managers, takeaways, teams and curry schools.
