School pupils from Blackburn are celebrating after winning two national cricket titles.
The Blackburn Under 12s and Under 15s were crowned ‘Chance to Shine’ National Street Cricket Champions at the finals held in Nottingham.
The Blackburn team were representing Lancashire and took on teams from across the UK.
The Under 15’s finished second in their group before advancing into the final where they met Leeds.
Although it was a close encounter, Blackburn came out on top to secure victory and lift the national title.
Meanwhile, the Under 12’s topped their group before progressing into the final against Nottingham.
Once again, Team Blackburn showed a lot of character to win the match and complete a memorable double for Lancashire on the day.
Players also got the chance to meet New Zealand international cricketer Colin Munro, who gave some tips and advice to competitors.
CTS Street Lead Coach for Blackburn, Farouk Hussain, said: “It was an incredible achievement from the boys that's fully deserved for the commitment they have shown in attending weekly sessions over the last 12 months.
“The passion and desire to win was clear for all to see. It meant everything to those boys.”
Farouk said the victories was reward for the hard work the players had put in over the past few years, with some of the players being involved since 2018.
He added: “For many it's their first taste of competitive cricket and they withstood the intense pressure and showed great character.
"It is something they will remember for the rest of their lives."
