A Blackburn student will begin studying History at Durham University after receiving top A-level results.
Amine Gherensi, 19, was awarded an A in Sociology, B in History, B in Religious Studies and B in Politics, at Blackburn Sixth Form, in Blackburn College.
He will join the prestigious university to study History BA (Hons) in September, after securing a place at Grey College.
After receiving his results, Amine said: “I’m so pleased to have got a place to study at Durham University, I can’t quite believe it.
“I originally started my A-Levels at another college but left to come to Blackburn Sixth Form and I’m really glad that I did.
"The teachers at Sixth Form are great, very supportive and friendly and the resources for revision are excellent. I would really recommend the college to students looking to study A-Levels.
“My tutors have encouraged me to work hard and helped me to keep on track with deadlines, while pushing me to achieve my goals.
“University is a big change, but I feel well prepared for it as I’ve been doing quite a lot of independent work, and we’ve been given a lot of help with essay writing and exam techniques.”
During his time at Blackburn Sixth Form, Amine took part in the OxNet programme, which aims to give information and advice about applying to Oxford, Cambridge and Russell Group universities.
Head of Sixth Form at Blackburn College, Hayley McQueen said: “Amine has performed exceptionally across all his A-Level subjects. In addition to his academic gifts and insight, he has been consistently enthusiastic, curious and hard working in his approach to his studies.
“We are delighted that he has achieved his first-choice university and we know that he will go on to have a successful university career.
