Pupils from St Wilfrid’s are elated after opening their results today – with many going on to top universities including one who has been accepted to Oxford.
About 20 students achieved straight A or A* grades, with Head of Sixth Form Heidi Cass saying she is very proud of the group after such a difficult two years.
She told the Lancashire Telegraph: “I am absolutely thrilled for the students, they have worked so hard, despite all the challenges they have faced.
“We are so pleased for them; we have seen some exceptional results and some amazing places our pupils are heading to. We wish them the best of luck in the future.”
Hanna Khan is heading to the University of Oxford to study biochemistry after achieving an A* in chemistry, A* in biology and A in history.
Hanna said: “I wasn’t expecting this – I am just glad all my hard work didn’t go down the drain.
“I am very excited to go to Oxford. Even though it is a bit far away, I am so glad to get in and I know I will make the most out of it when I get there.”
Tahseen Umer gained some of the highest grades at the school with three A stars in biology, chemistry and history.
Another highflyer is Aliyah Chaudhry who is going to study law at the University of Manchester.
She achieved an A in extended project qualification, A* in Law, A* in psychology, A* in sociology and an A in mathematics studies option.
Mohammed-Zayn Ganchi achieved AAB and is going on to study medicine at the University of Manchester.
Shabnam Raja was successful with AAA which has secured her a spot at UCL London to study psychology with language sciences.
Daniel Oliver achieved A*AA and has accepted a place at Edinburgh University to study maths.
Anisa Haji has secured an apprenticeship in the public sector with Lancashire Constabulary.
Academy principal, Miss Huddleston said: “We are thrilled with the attainment of our students, who have shown focus, determination and resilience as they have worked with their teachers throughout their journey at St Wilfrid’s.
"As students move into further education or their chosen careers, we look forward to seeing what they will achieve and would like to wish them every success for the future.”
