A BLACKBURN school is introducing its students to global cultures by holding its first International Week.
Pleckgate High School has dedicated all this week to making pupils more aware of the world around them, focusing is on the issues of global poverty and Fair Trade.
As part of the project Sainsbury's Bolton donated 260 Fair Trade bananas to go in a goody bag of products for year seven students, who are looking at the way that Fair Trade helps the producers earn a fair wage.
Bananas were one of the first products to be produced and sold under the Fair Trade scheme.
Chris Parker, a Sainsbury's representative visited the Pleckgate Road school to present the children with the bananas.
The goody bags also contains a recipe card, coffee stick, chocolate bar, pencil, coaster, book mark and a leaflet supporting and promoting the use of Fair Trade products.
The items, all Fair Trade were donated by local companies.
Each day this week there have been activities available for pupils.
The main event will be tonight, an International Evening with a charity auction where all proceeds are to be donated to Fair Trade charities.
