Police appealing for information after reports a nine-year-old boy was approached in a cafe's toilets and inappropriately touched have arrested a man.

On Saturday, July 9, officers asked for help to find a man following the sexual assault, which allegedly took place in the Cappuvino restaurant/cafe in Church Street, Lancaster.

Police were called to the restaurant at around 3pm where they were told a man had approached a nine-year-old boy in the toilets and touched him inappropriately.

After launching an appeal to find the suspect, police confirmed yesterday they now have a 69-year-old man from Kendal, Cumbria, in custody.

A spokesperson for the police said: "You may recall we asked for your help in tracing a man in relation to a sexual assault in Lancaster on July 9 involving a nine-year-old boy.

"We can confirm that a 68-year-old man from Kendal has been arrested and is now in police custody in Lancaster."
