The owner of a Blackburn-based food and beverage company will give his workers the day off next week as the UK is set to sizzle in a heatwave.

David Davies, the founder of Haslingden Road’s Sovereign Beverage Company, will let his whole company enjoy the sunshine on Monday, July 18.

This is after they have had an “incredible start to the year” and exceeded targets.

David, who lives in Lytham, said: “We have had an incredible start to the year, exceeding all our financial targets plus getting shortlisted for two key business awards.

“I’m always looking for new ways to thank the team, so it made sense to give them the day off to enjoy the hot weather, in celebration of our hottest month financially to date!”

This comes as Lancashire and other parts of the UK are set to be hit with an amber weather warning for extreme heat.

Currently, the Met Office warning is in place from Sunday to Tuesday, July 19, and it covers all parts of Lancashire apart from coastal areas.

In Blackburn with Darwen, temperatures could reach highs of 31°C in the borough.
