Two year 6 pupils have become the first in their school to complete a 100 book challenge.

Maryam Sultan and Habibah Ahmed of Wensley Fold Academy, Blackburn, completed the challenge in their final year at the school.

The 100 book challenge requires children to expand the kinds of literature they can read and to develop a deep love of reading.

Maryam Sultan said: "My favourite author is definitely Enid Blyton. I absolutely love Mallory Towers."

Deputy head and English lead, Mrs Whittingham, added: "We are incredibly proud of this amazing achievement.

"At Wensley Fold we focus on developing a lifelong love of reading because in the words of Dr Seuss, ‘If you read, the world is yours'."
