A woman was taken to hospital and treated for “major trauma” this week after falling 20 feet onto an East Lancashire riverbank.

The incident took place in Active Way, Burnley, at 8.24pm on Monday, June 27.

The multi-agency rescue saw an ambulance, air ambulance, response vehicle, Hazardous Area Response Team, and an operational commander attend the incident.

 

 

Dramatic photos, captured by Lancashire Fire and Rescue’s drone team, show officials rescuing the woman by lifting her onto a gurney and putting her in an ambulance.

LFRS Drone said: “Drone deployed in Burnley last night to assist in a multi-agency rescue of a lady who had fallen 20 feet onto a riverbank.

“After being stabilized by North West Ambulance Service Hazardous Area Response Teams and North West Ambulance Service, she was lifted to ground level by the aerial ladder platform to an awaiting ambulance.”

She was then take to hospital where she was treated for her injuries.

A spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service said: “We were called to an incident on Active Way, Burnley, reporting a patient who suffered a fall from height.

“An ambulance, air ambulance, response vehicle, Hazardous Area Response Team, and an operational commander all attended.

“A female patient was taken to hospital to be treated for major trauma.”

Lancashire Fire and Rescue has been approached for comment.
