Police and fishing enforcement teams have been patrolling the riverbanks after reports of poaching and non-compliance with licences.

The rural task force, in partnership with fisheries enforcement officers from the Environment Agency, has carried out enforcement activity on the banks of the River Ribble between Paythorne and Preston today (June 27).

Police say the action is in response to recent reports of poaching and non-compliance in the area.

A spokesperson said: “Despite the relatively nice weather there weren't too many anglers out and those that were out and spoken to all had the relevant licences and permissions.

“Similar patrols will be carried out at other areas on the region's rivers in the weeks to come so please ensure that when you are out fishing you have the required licences and permissions.

“If you do have a licence, be sure to check the expiry date before venturing out.”
