Blackburn locals will have the chance to play a few rounds of darts with a professional darts player to raise funds for a youth organisation.
Northern Irish PDC player Daryl Gurney who also goes by the nickname ‘Superchin’ will be attending ‘An Evening of Exhibition Darts’, on Wednesday July 6.
The Director of Blackburn Youth Darts Academy Keith Brunt has organised the night to help raise funds for the academy, after Daryl 'Super Chin' Gurney visited a few weeks ago and was so impressed he said he would do a exhibition for free.
The funds raised will be going towards covering the cost of new shirts and towards putting all the volunteers on level one coaching courses held by the Junior Darts Corporation.
Mr Brunt said: “As you can imagine we are over the moon with the support we are getting from Daryl and professional MC Paul Booth who is one of our ambassadors."
Mr Brunt launched the Academy as a non-profitable organisation in 2017, aiming to promote darts to children and young people who are the next generation of the sport, and is looking for more volunteers and sponsors to help them.
He added: "Darts is a great sport for young people to take part in because not only is it fun to play but it's great to improve children's mathematics.
"I and some of my coaching team actually assisted the PDC a few weeks ago with their Bullseye Maths programme which delivers maths lessons in school using darts as a new way of learning it."
The Academy works within the local community, using the sport as a way to help children from the ages of six to 18 learn, improve and progress in darts whilst also making new friends.
They recently worked with professional darts player James Wade at St Barnabas Primary School in Darwen.
The night with world number 22 Daryl Gurney will take place at St Pauls Working Men’s Club in Blackburn, where the Academy’s weekly coaching sessions and local competitions are based.
Everyone attending the night will be in with a chance of playing Superchin Daryl on stage with walk on music offering the full professional darts experience.
Radio DJ and Sports MC Paul Booth will also be there on the night welcoming the brave and lucky darts competitors on stage.
To help raise the funds a raffle and auction will also be available for anyone to enter. Doors open at 6.20pm and the event will start at 7pm.
