The Chief of the General Staff has sent a message to the army, in stark terms, that they need to be ready to face Russia on the battlefield. His message could not be clearer and he said ‘there is a burning imperative to forge an army capable of fighting alongside our allies and defeating Russia in battle’. This could mean an extended European war.
Europe’s failure to face up to the threat posed by Russia over recent decades has finally come home to roost. I think it is now time for the whole country to wake up and recognise the existential threat posed to our way of life and the world.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine alongside the financial tsunami caused by the pandemic has been the major cause of the ‘cost of living’ crisis we are now facing with its impact on world food and energy prices, something our government and governments around the world have little control over.
The people of this country have little concept of what this could mean in the days ahead. Previous wartime generations had to endure extreme privation and rationing and I am appalled at the complete lack of awareness of the current situation shown by opposition parties, the woke elite, the unions and the media that this country now faces, seeming instead to concentrate on wage increases, strike action and political intrigue to the exclusion of all else.
When I was born in 1954 rationing was still in force some eight years after the end of World War II. This was not a new phenomenon; my grandfathers saw service in World War I and my parents and uncles served in World War II and experienced years of rationing. Despite my age, if called upon, I am prepared to serve my country in whatever capacity just as many of those of a similar age are having to do in Ukraine.
Ukraine is currently, by default, effectively defending the whole of Europe. For if Russia conquers Ukraine there will be nothing to stop it invading other countries whatever they may say.
Putin has made it clear his aim is to resurrect the Soviet Union but he might not stop there. Remember everyone thought he would stop after invading the Crimea.
Sacrifices will have to be made.
It has taken an army general to focus attention on the reality facing this country and the rest of Europe. Wake up Britain!
