Police and National Highways officers have spent the best part of this morning trying to capture a dog which was seen running on the hard shoulder of a motorway.
Overnight, police received several reports that a German Shepherd type dog had been seen on the hard shoulder and carriageway of the M66 close to junction two for Bury.
Officers are warning motorists to be cautious when travelling in the area.
A spokesperson for the North West Motorway Police said: "We've had several reports overnight of a German Shepherd type dog running on the hard shoulder and carriageway of M66 around junction two.
"We currently have police and National Highways at scene trying to capture the dog.
"Just for caution if in the area please."
