AS The Queen celebrates her 70th year on the throne, we look back over her visit to Crown Paints’ head office in Darwen on May 16, 1968.
Two images document the visit, where she was given a tour of the colour department, before meeting internal designers.
The team at Crown Paints are this week holding celebrations at the Darwen head office, aswell as across their national network of Crown Decorating Stores, with all activity raising money for their charity partner Alzheimer’s Society.
Crown Paints proudly holds the Royal Warrant. First awarded in 1949 due to being a supplier to King George VI, the warrant has since been renewed by Queen Elizabeth II.
It is 70 years since King George VI died in February 1952, marking the start of the then 25-year-old Elizabeth taking the throne. This week, she, along with the country, celebrates her Platinum Jubilee.
The Queen has visited Blackburn on a number of occasions, including a Maundy Thursday celebration in 2014 and a town visit in 1955, three years after she took the throne.
Her coronation was held in 1953 and the celebrations of her Silver, Golden, and Diamond Jubilees in 1977, 2002, and 2012 respectively.
In 2017, she became the first British monarch to reach a Sapphire Jubilee and is the oldest monarch to hold the throne.
