ARMY soldiers are set to march through a Lancashire town later today – and you can line the streets to watch them.

The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment Freedom of the Borough Parade is taking place in Ormskirk today ( 25 May).

The 1st Battalion of The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment marched through Ormskirk in October 2011 after being given the Freedom of the Borough in December 2010.

Now, the Battalion is returning to parade through the town today and they are hoping to give spectators a good show. 

The event is expected to last from 10:30am-1pm – although these times are subject to change

The parade will then continue along Wigan Road and then enter Abbotsford to arrive back at the council offices.

Here is a full itinerary for the day:

  • 10.30am The parade will assemble outside the Council Offices in Derby Street and march along Derby Street West to Ormskirk Parish Church
  • 10.45am: Private service at Ormskirk Parish Church
  • 12.30pm: Service ends, the parade will march down Church Street onto Moor Street to a saluting base
  • 12.45pm: Arrive at saluting base to be inspected by High Sheriff of Lancashire, Martin Ainscough DL, accompanied by Col AP Kennedy, Deputy Colonel of the Regiment

A spokesperson for West Lancashire Borough Council said: “We hope you will come to watch the parade.

“If you do please use public transport to get there if possible as Ormskirk town centre will be busy during the parade. If you do drive to the event please park your vehicle responsibly.”
