A RESTAURANT has urged its customers to support local businesses, after “unprecedented” price increases forced its closure.
Basil’s Bar and Grill, in Whitworth, announced its closure on Tuesday, May 17, and said they are “devastated” about the decision.
Danni and Michael Bunnel, who took over the business in 2020, said: “It is with a heavy, broken heart that we have to share this news with you.
“Due to unprecedented increases in overheads, stock, wages and more we have made the decision to close the doors.
“To our amazing team – thank you. Without you we could not have achieved what we have done. Some great memories and long lasting friendships have been created.
“To our loyal customers – thank you. Without your support these past few years it would have been a tough gig to recover after lockdown.
“To our suppliers - thank you for your continued support and advice.”
They also issued a plea to customers, asking them to support local businesses or risk losing them forever.
They said: “We are devastated we have to make this decision but in the current climate the hospitality industry is being hit hard.
“So when we preach support local we really do mean this. Your local businesses need your support to stay open.
“We are helping our staff in finding new roles, and the property will be on the market for sale.
“Any interested parties please contact us.”
Neighbouring business, The Red Lion Inn, said they were “devastated” by the news.
They said: “Devastating news to hear that one of our neighbours will be closing its doors.
“Basil’s Bar and Grill has been a fantastic place with welcoming staff and an excellent ever changing menu.
"Many of our staff and regulars have visited frequently and come back with nothing but good things to say.
“Danni and Michael, you guys have done amazing work and should be incredibly proud!
“The industry is still recovering from a difficult few years and it's taken another wonderful establishment.
“A great loss to the village. We can't stress enough how important it is to support your local businesses.
“On behalf of everyone here up the cobbles, we thank you for all your hard work and wish you and all your staff the best of luck in the future.”
Hundreds of former customers also showed their support, leaving supportive messages for the Basil’s team.
One person said: “Gutted for you all.
“You've been amazing you've given so much to the community and fought to keep going.
“You provided us with fresh fruit and veg during lockdown you fed hundreds of families.
“Good luck for your future.”
Mandy Moore said: “This is such sad news. I am gutted for you.
“You've worked so incredibly hard. Well done for everything you've achieved and the amazing food and hospitality you've given us.”
Basil’s Bar and Grill described itself as a “fine dining restaurant in the heart of the Rossendale countryside”.
The Lancashire Telegraph contacted Basil's Bar and Grill for further information, but they declined to comment.
