Owner, Victoria Keating, said she decided to open the shop after her own dog cake supplier "let her down".

She already runs a pet care services business called Animal Magic Family.

She said: “I had been buying doggy cakes from another baker for my customer’s dog birthdays.

"But she started to let me down so I decided to make them myself."

The new site is located on Queen Street, and is the former premises of the popular and Instagram famous Finch Bakery.

As a fan of this business, Victoria knew she had to put a bid in for the shop.

Victoria, 43, said: “When I saw Finch Bakery advertise that their old shop was up for rent I immediately rang the estate agents as it seemed like the perfect place to open a business.

“I have known about and been following Finch Bakery since the first year they opened.

"I used to buy a lot of cakes from there and often saw the queues winding around the street.

“There is definitely a gap in the market for a business like this nowadays. Everyone is going mad for new dog creations.

“The birthday cakes, in particular, haven proven really popular on my website."

While she has only been open since Thursday, May 12, she has already been flooded with customers who say the dog treats look good enough for a human to eat.

She said: “We haven’t been open for long but I love seeing everyone’s faces when they walk through the door.

“Everyone has been saying the cakes look good enough to eat – but that was my plan, to make it look like human food.”

Victoria’s best sellers are her custom birthday cakes, which start from £24.95.

Some bespoke cakes can even go into the hundreds, with a former customer paying £130 for a large doggy birthday cake.

A surprise seller are her doggy wedding cakes.

“I have had quite a few orders for novelty fake weddings,” Victoria said, “but also for actual human weddings, where humans don’t want their dogs to miss out.”

“In terms of ingredients they are similar to human cakes but without sugar or salt.

“They are made with organic ingredients and the cake mix has dried fruit in it.”

Victoria also caters to big events, such as the Queen’s upcoming Platinum Jubilee; she has made limited edition cakes and buns especially for the celebration.

If you don’t want a full cake, the business also sell small treats which range from £1 - £3.50.

These include: waffles, scones, pork pies, sausage rolls, bagels, brownies, pizzas and much more.

Victoria says she is looking forward to the next few weeks and wishes her mum could have lived to see her next big business venture.

She said: “My mum passed away in February and a lot of me is doing this for her as she would have absolutely loved this shop.

“I grew up making cakes with her and she taught me how to cook.

“She never knew I actually got this shop and she would have loved it.

“I am excited to see what the next few weeks will bring.”
