DOZENS of police officers and rescuers are working to get to the bottom of the disappearance of Katie Kenyon.
This afternoon at Burnley Police Station, Detective Superintendent Gary Brooks confirmed a man who remains in custody had been arrested on suspicion of kidnap in connection with the case.
Detectives have now been granted a further 36 hours to interview the 50-year-old in connection with Katie’s disappearance.
Dozens of police officers assisted by Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service and the Mountain Rescue Team are currently searching in and around Bolton-by-Bowland, where a silver Ford Transit van Katie was believed to have been in was last seen.
Detectives from the Force Major Incident Team say they are following a number of lines of enquiry to try and find out what has happened to her.
Her family are extremely concerned and say Katie’s disappearance is out of character for her.
Officers believe at about 9.30am on Friday, April 22, a woman matching Katie’s description left an address in Todmorden Road, Burnley, with a man and travelled in the silver Ford Transit with the registration MT57FLC to the Bolton-by-Bowland area. She has not been seen since.
It has today been confirmed the man is known to Katie.
Officers continue to appeal to anyone who was in Bolton-by-Bowland or that area and may have seen Katie, either in company or on her own, or who saw or has dashcam footage of a van matching the description to come forward.
Katie is described as white, 33, five ft nine ins, with shoulder length strawberry blond/ginger highlighted hair. She was last seen wearing a blue shirt/jacket and white vest top, black leggings and flip flops.
Detective Superintendent Gary Brooks said: “We continue to be extremely concerned about Katie and we have a large team who are working hard to try and find out what has happened to her.
“I am keeping an open mind about what has happened to her but my concern obviously grows as time goes by.
“I would appeal again for anyone who was in the Bolton-by-Bowland area on Friday and saw anything suspicious to get in touch, especially if they saw the silver van or Katie alone or in company. Please do come and speak to us even if you think the information you have may not be important.
“We continue to support Katie’s family and to keep them updated with any developments.”
Anyone with information should call police on 101 quoting log 800 of April 24, or alternatively contact independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
