AN ELDERLY couple have stripped off to demonstrate their love for the Morris Minor.

Jim Ackers and his wife Jean joined other Morris Minor enthusiasts in taking off their clothes for a charity calendar to mark the 60th anniversary of the first Morris Minor car to roll of the production line.

The couple, from Ramsbottom, are members of the Lancashire branch of the Morris Minor Owners Club, which put together the calendar.

The calendar is now being sold as part of a national Morris Minor Owners Club to raise £1 million for Marie Curie Cancer Care, which also celebrates its 60th anniversary this year.

Mr and Mrs Ackers - or Mrs and Mrs September - have owned Morris Minors for the past 28-years Mr Ackers, aged 74, said: "When I heard about the idea, I had no hesitation in doing it.

"It is for a good cause. Personally I would have chosen another shot, but they told me it was too much."

His wife was not quite so bold.

Mrs Ackers said: "At first I had my reservations, but they were soon dispelled because everyone was so enthusiastic.

"It was a lot of fun doing it, and we all made sure we chose secluded spots so no-one would see. It is tasteful."

A member of the owners club for 10 years, Mr Ackers said he is used to his car attracting attention from other drivers on the road.

The Morris Minor was launched at Earls Court Motor Show on September 20, 1948.

It was designed by a team led by Alec Issigonis, who later designed the Mini.

So far, the sale of the calendar has raised £3,000.

It is available for £5 by calling 07870510502.
