A MAN who turned up at his former partner's home in the early hours and attacked her is awaiting sentence.

Burnley magistrates heard how Matthew Quigley, 32, grabbed Caroline McNamee by the throat and threw her on to the floor after arriving and banging on her door at 1am.

The victim had eventually let him in to avoid disturbing the neighbours but was assaulted and her £20 mirror smashed.

Quigley, of Healeywood Road, Burnley, admitted assault by beating and damage.

He was bailed until February 20 for a pre-sentence report, on condition he lives at his home address, does not contact the victim and does not go onto Durban Grove, Burnley. The bench told the defendant the offences had been a breach of trust and the victim had been vulnerable.

Carl Gaffney, prosecuting, told the court the defendant and victim's four year relationship ended last June.

Quigley turned up at her home uninvited and when he was allowed him, he was agitated. The defendant was asked to leave but Quigley said he would go when he was ready. Mr Gaffney said the defendant grabbed his ex's throat and threw her to the floor. He then got hold of a mirror, went into the dining room and smashed it on the floor.

Quigley then left and the victim contacted police.

John Nuttall, defending, said Quigley accepted he caused the victim's injuries. He knew he had gone over the top.
