BLACKBURN Rovers have teamed up with a council to provide coaching to schools.
Eight schools in Burnley have taken part in the 'Shooting Stars' coaching programme, which has provided the schools with eight hours of multi-sports coaching - and £250 of sports equipment.
The programme, run by Burnley Council's sport and play development team in conjunction with Blackburn Rovers, has been funded by the Local Enterprise Growth Initiative who gave money to deprived areas of the country to fund enterprise and investment.
Each school was given individual kit bags for each child and free transport to and coaching at Ewood Park as well as free tickets to see a Blackburn Rovers match.
The project is a pilot project which started on January 7 and is running until the end of March.
Once the project ends the scheme will be evaluated for the council to consider expanding it to visit other schools.
Councillor Roger Frost, Burnley Council's executive member for leisure and recreation, said: "This is yet another fantastic project being delivered by the council's sport and play development unit, in partnership with Blackburn Rovers FC.
"This is another example of the important role that sport and physical activity can play in developing local communities."
