PERMISSION is being sought to transform an old pub into apartments.
The Wellington Hotel, based on Todmorden Road in Bacup, could become homes should planners at Rossendale Borough Council give the green light for work to take place.
It is the second time that the building’s owner, Bal Singh, has applied to the council for planning permission, having had plans approved in 2016 for a similar scheme.
However as a condition of permission being granted, work had to take place on the building within three years.
Planning documents from 2016, which outline a similar proposal to the present one, reveal how Mr Singh was the owner of nearby care home situated to the west of the pub.
Paperwork also revealed that Mr Signh’s plan was to re-configure the ground-floor space, previously occupied by the pub, into two flats of two bedrooms.
The building’s upstairs already comprises of a three-bedroom apartment, previously occupied by the pub’s landlord.
A decision notice at the time read: “The proposed development relates to a site withing the urban boundary of Bacup and subject to conditions will not detract to an unacceptable extent from the character and appearance of the building and conservation are it lies in, neighbour amenity or highway safety.”
