East Lancashire comedian, Lee Mack, hosted a brand new ITV show at the weekend – but it has left viewers feeling divided.

Lee, who grew up in Blackburn, hosted the prime-time quiz show, The 1% Club, which aired for the first time on Saturday.

On the show, contestants can win up to £100,000 for their brain power – and also find out if they are among the most intelligent in the country.

100 contestants will take part in the show – but only a handful will make it to the end and answer a question that only one per cent of the country can get right.

Each contestant starts with £1,000 but, if they answer any question incorrectly, they are out of the game and their grand goes into the Prize Pot.

Many people loved the new show and Lee Mack’s hosting skills.

One person said: “Loved this show and actually got my teenage kids to get off their phones and join in answering the questions.”

Another commented: “Lee Mack a great host and comedian. Enjoyed the show.”

“I have a great feeling that #The1PercentClub will become the next must-watch gameshow on TV,” said another.

However, not every viewer was impressed with the opening episode; some said the text and pictures were too small while others described it as “boring”.

One visually impaired viewer said: “Loved the concept and Lee Mack’s delivery but as someone who’s visually impaired I was very disappointed that the answer options (including the pictures) were not read out loud or explained.

“The text and pictures were very small on screen. Not a very accessible quiz show.”

Another person agreed, saying: “Why are the questions so tiny? I'm wearing glasses and I can't read them!”

“Lee Mack was brilliant – give him a chat show,” said another, “but all the time taken for answers and who got it right etc, interrupted the flow.”

Others had constructive criticism and said they should introduce an app so people can play along at home.

One said: “Can’t believe you can’t play along with this at home. Please sort this out.”

Another said: “It needs to have a ‘play along at home’ option. Otherwise, it's a bit boring just watching people getting easy questions wrong.”

Another said: “Lee Mack is great, but this is another game show that could be half an hour if they didn't spend so long on the ‘characters’.”

“Am I the only one finding that this is dragging?” said another. “Half an hour would've been better. Starting to get boring.”

The 1% Club continues this Saturday on ITV at 8:30pm.
