A GROUP of young men caught on CCTV littering the streets following a takeaway meal have been described as "lazy" and "inconsiderate".
At around 8.30pm on Tuesday, the passengers in the Audi A3 casually opened their doors and threw used sauces, boxes, bags and wrappers onto the street outside Desi Nibbles on Whalley Range, Blackburn.
They open the car doors several times more to litter the street, eventually dumping a carrier bag with the remainder of their rubbish.
It is believed the occupants of the car had just finished breaking fast during the holy month of Ramadan, which began over the weekend.
The blight of littering and fly-tipping has been one the growing concerns for residents across the county.
There have been incidents of people in car parks littering despite their being bins only yards away.
Hassan Khan, who took the recording, said: "It was around 8.30pm last night outside my house next to Desi Nibbles on Whalley Range.
"I came out my house and saw rubbish on my doorstep which looked like it had just been thrown recently.
"I checked my CCTV and saw men in a car throwing the rubbish out. I was shocked and disgusted that anyone felt they could do this when there are bins nearby.
"To leave that rubbish outside my home is vile and I'd love to know what they would do if someone did the same outside their homes.
"The disappointing thing was that not one of the men in the car stopped the other and in fact they all took part in this.
"They should be dealt with robustly and them being spoken to isn't enough. They should at least apologise to the community.
"Finally, the worst thing was that this has been committed in the holy month of Ramadan, when behaviour and actions should be to help each other and be a spiritual experience, not committing these types of disgusting behaviours."
Bastwell and Daisyfield Councillor Shaukat Hussain said: “I’m appalled, and totally condemn the behaviour. There are several bins near by which could have been used. Even if there are no bins around it is good practice to keep the rubbish and take it home with you. Many people do that.
"The video has been reported and hopefully action will be taken against the individuals concerned."
Cllr Tiger Patel was appalled by the footage and branded the mens behaviour as 'totally unacceptable'.
He said: "This absolutely and totally wrong. These young lads you have been fasting and then eating in the car, throwing their rubbish outside onto the streets. It's totally unacceptable.
"When you eat anything with a wrapper, put it in the bin. We keep seeing this with fly-tipping and other forms of littering, it's the same and same again.
"This is totally wrong, we need to educate these young men on how we can put rubbish in the bin.
"We have 2000 volunteers working in Blackburn cleaning up the town all the time and this is so not fair on them. It gets worse everyday.
"Please, I ask everyone in this town, put your rubbish in the bin."
A resident of Whalley Range, who saw the video and asked not to be named, said: “This is what everyone hates. How can people be so lazy and inconsiderate?
“It is easy to take the rubbish home or find a litter bin close by. Who do they think will pick this up?
“If they did this after opening their fast it just defeats the whole purpose of fasting and sets a bad example for all other Muslims. I am lost for words at how brazen this is.”
